Gatekeeper Digital Certificates Overview

Gatekeeper is the Australian Federal Government's initiative for the use of PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) with Federal and State government agencies. Gatekeeper certificates are Digital Certificates which allow individuals and organisations to securely conduct business across the Internet.

Gatekeeper certificates can be installed in email clients and Web browsers and used to securely exchange information with others. They allow each party to verify the identity of who they are dealing with, and permit sending encrypted emails which can only be read by their intended recipients. Gatekeeper certificates can be used for such purposes as sending confidential information, lodging tax returns, Customs declarations, enrolling to vote, and more.

Gatekeeper accreditation enables Symantec Australia to provide Gatekeeper compliant digital certificate solutions to Australian Federal and State Government agencies, as well as businesses. This includes Individual, Non-Individual, Australian Business Number Digital Signature Certificates (ABN-DSCs) and Device certificates.
